Norfolk Stairlifts have recently installed an outdoor Brooks 130 stairlift in North Norfolk looking out to sea.

Our engineers are experienced in this type of lift installation.  This property can only be accessed using the stairs, so a workable solution had to be found.

Our surveyor was the first to visit to discuss the user’s needs and requirements, to undertake a full survey and to recommend the correct specification for the stairlift.

The lady user would be assisted into and out of the seat.  One of the first things investigated was making this job as easy as possible for both the user and her helper.  The handrails on the staircase protruded out past the first step.  Stairlifts are usually fitted with the upper arm rest broadly in line with the nose of the first step.  This type of installation would not be suitable here as the handrail on the car park side would be in just the wrong place and would hinder both user and helper.

Our surveyor specified a longer rail than normal with extended cleats.  This allows the rail to sit higher than normal as it reaches the bottom of the stairs which in turn allows the stairlift to sit further away from the 1st step when parked at the bottom.  This made seating much easier as the handrail was no longer in the way.  You can see how the rail is raised here.

Outdoor stairlifts need their power supply to only be low voltage outside for safety.  We discussed with the householder where to locate the mains supply and battery charger for the stairlift within this beautiful property so that it wasn’t an eyesore.  The photos below show the position which was tucked away.

This stairlift is located on the North Norfolk coast.  We specified stainless steel fasteners to hold the rail in place.  The stairlift also comes with a thick cover which should be fitted after every journey.  Although the Brooks 130 Outdoor is fully waterproof the cover is a great idea especially near the sea.

There are some further photos below.  Norfolk Stairlifts consider this a cracking installation, it perfectly fulfils the needs of the user, looks good and most importantly allows the couple to keep on enjoying their home together!
