The Problem
Another fantastic Otolift Air installation. We love the Air for its flexibility, looks and choice of options.
There were two issues to overcome here;
A normal stairlift rail would finish out in the hallway and would cause a trip hazard. This could be overcome with a hinged rail (see this blog)
However, this lady’s mobility would make waiting for the hinge to operate awkward.
The second issue was more minor! The property had just been decorated in shades of grey. What could be done to the stairlift & rail to help blend in?
The Solution
The stairlift was fitted with a drop nosed rail that only protrudes 170mm from the nose of the first step (a timber barrier was also fitted here to ensure that nobody was able to catch themselves on the rail end). This avoids the need for a hinged rail.
The lady was able to select a grey fabric seat and a grey coloured rail. They blend in very well to their surroundings.
When the stairlift is parked in the hall to allow the lady to sit and stand, the seat is in the way if it is left there. To overcome this an extra parking point has been fitted a few steps up so the stairlift can be moved out of the hall when not in use. When needed again it’s a quick press on the remote control and the lift will move down into the hall again.
The seat is available in a choice of synthetic leather/Fabric or real leather. The rail is available in three main colours as standard. However, for a fee any RAL colour can be selected.
