Norfolk Stairlifts have recently installed an Otolift Air (one of our best selling stairlifts) in a farmhouse extension in Reymerston, near Dereham and Watton in Norfolk.
We have blogged quite a lot about the Otolift Air, so will concentrate on the design and liaison between ourselves and the householders/builders to ensure the suitability and correct fitment of the new stairlift.
The extension has been designed with the aim of the stairlift delivering the user into his bedroom only a step or two away from the bed.
We were first asked to visit when the project was underway. We were asked to comment on the layout and the clearances required to ensure the stairlift could be fitted as mentioned above. Our surveyor took a few photos at this point and minimum clearances were advised, so that the extension could be completed to allow free passage of the stairlift upstairs and into the bedroom. We also had the opportunity to ask the customer to highlight any pipe runs so that the stanchions (legs) that the stairlift rail sits on could be fixed without clashing with any pipework (nobody wants a wet bedroom!).

We were asked to reattend to provide a quotation and also to assess the user for suitability. On our second visit our surveyor found the project had progressed as you can see below. We were also glad to see the pipe runs clearly marked so that they could be avoided.
After the customer had accepted our quotation a full technical survey was carried out on the stairs as you can see them above.
It was a pleasure to see the pictures of the stairlift installed in the extension, now looking completely different to our first visit.
The Otolift Air fits really well here and the 2 way seat that turns under its own power makes getting on and off the stairlift downstairs much easier. As you may recall from other posts here, the Otolift Air comes as standard with a powered footrest which assists with seating and standing as it can be folded up and out of the way giving more room for the user.
The rail is in a cream colour (blends in well) and the customer chose a synthetic leather seat covering in Hazlenut colour. An extra parking point was also fitted to allow the stairlift to park out of the hall when not in use.
