Norfolk Stairlifts have recently supplied a Brooks 180 Curve Stairlift on this winding staircase in Diss in Norfolk.

Our surveyor was called in urgently to provide the quickest solution for a stairlift.  This stairlift was being used within 7 days of our surveyor visiting the house for the first time.

If the Brooks Curve stairlift is suitable then it can be installed that quickly in most homes.

One concern here was the multi step fan turn on this hand made staircase.  There are 6 steps within the 90 degree fan turn.  Our surveyor liaised with the manufacturers before finally confirming a suitable and safe fit.  The main concern here was the safe use of the stairs by others.  The staircase layout only allowed for a stairlift to ascend on the right hand side of the stairs.  As such any one climbing the stairs normally would be forced towards the smaller parts of the treads on the fanned turn.  The manufacturers were able to position the rail tightly to the right hand side to reduce the risk here.

Stairlifts are battery powered.  This allows the stairlift to operate during power cuts (especially useful if you only have an upstairs toilet).  They normally charge their batteries when parked at the top or the bottom of the stairs.  It was noted that the Brooks Curve stairlift would overhang into the archway at the bottom of the stairs when parked.  This is a hazard and it is possible that someone could catch themselves on the stairlift while walking through the arch.

To overcome this an extra charging point was specified to be fitted a step or two up the stairs.  This allows the user, having got off the stairlift, to quickly and easily move it up to this extra point by using one of the two supplied remote controls.  This then gives clear access through the arch.  To stairlift is returned to the ground floor to use with a quick press on the remote control.

Norfolk Stairlifts have installed many stairlifts in and around the Diss area.

Our surveyor will be able to advise on the best stairlift to suit the staircase and the person using it.  Surveys usually take no more than an hour.  We can usually get to you within a day or two of you calling.
